From the M62 enter Warrinton from the north via the A49, turning left onto the A50 just prior to Warrington Collegiate. Follow the A50 for a mile and then right through the roundabout then turning left onto the A574 Birchwood Way.

From the South, enter Warrington via the A50 making sure to turn right in Latchford onto Kingsway, still the A50. From Latchford, follow the A50 for 2 miles and then turn right onto the A574 Birchwood Way.

Follow the A574 until it crosses the M6 and then turn right at the double roundabout and then right at the next roundabout onto Dewhurst Road. In several hundred yards the Peacock pub is on the left. In the cark park please park as close to the peacock pub as possible.

Directions : From the M56. Leave at junction10 and head towards Warrington. At the first set of lights turn right into Stretton Lane (opposite the Cat & Lion). in 1 mile go straight ahead through the roundabout and continue until you reach the Thorn Inn on the left.
From Warrington. Take the A49 south passing through Stockton Heath. Continue for a further 2 miles until you reach Stretton and a set of lights with the Cat & Lion pub on the right. Turn left at these lights. In 1 mile go straight ahead through the roundabout and continue until you reach the Thorn Inn on the left.
Distance : 3 miles from M56 junction 10, 7 miles from centre of Warrington.

Walk : A pretty walk through woodland and along the riverbank, spring flowers should be showing well but no promises!
Mostly easy with some climbs and steps near the end. No stiles.
Directions: Take M6 to J19, take A556 from roundabout towards Northwich/Chester (3rd exit). Follow A556 for about 8miles, keep going until you cross a large blue bridge over the river. Turn right at the next traffic lights (400yds) and the Hotel is on the right very soon. Please drive through the top car parks and go under the archway to the lower car park.
Distance : 16 miles/30 mins from M6, J20 to allow for roadworks on M6.

Walk: A varied walk with good views of Beeston and Peckforton Castles.A short stretch of road at the start then field paths. No stiles. Mostly level easy walking.
Directions: Make your way to Stretton roundabout then take the A49 south. Follow this for 15 miles to the traffic lights at the Red Fox pub then turn right (still A49). Continue for about a mile and before reaching Beeston turn right along the road signed Tiverton and Huxley. After just over a mile look out for white railings and a post box on the left. This is Bates Mill Lane and is signed Beeston and there is a board advertising The Shady Oak. The pub is on the left before the bridge over the canal. Allow for roadworks with traffic lights on Acton Bridge.

Walk : It is a CHALLENGING walk with spectacular views on a clear day! Several steep flights of steps, a stick might be useful. Bring extra snacks as lunch will be after 2pm.
Directions to:- Take the A49 South from Warrington towards Whitchurch till you get to the A534, turn right onto the A534 towards Wrexham to Bulkeley, The Bickerton Poacher is on the left.
Distance : Approx. 22 miles from Stretton. There are road works on the bridge on the A49 so allow 1 hour from Stretton.

Meet : The Royal Oak Chester Road , Kelsall CW6 0RR Order food before start. Toilets available.
Walk : First half - Strenuous 2nd half moderate Steep sections, long inclines , uphill flight of 50 steps and downhill narrow path with a drop on one side , Cheshire fields, back lanes and a bit of main road walking. Only sheep encountered on recce but may be livestock. 5 stiles. Good views on a clear day
Directions : 25 miles from junction 10 ( Stretton) M56 . Take A49 Tarporley Road going south and follow it for approximately 8.6 miles until you come to the traffic lights at Blakemere. (There should be a petrol station on your left hand side). Turn right at the lights onto the A556 /Chester Road. Follow this road for approximately 4 miles (Where it becomes the A54 keep straight on). After you pass the Gresty Waste car park on the left hand at Delamare the road widen and become a dual carriageway. At the next traffic lights at Kelsall ( Morreys Nursery should be on the right hand side) turn left into Chester Road . Keep straight on and follow this road for about a mile (you will reach The Lord Binning pub on the left hand side) a quarter of a mile further on is The Royal Oak ( on the right hand side - 100 yds after a pedestrian crossing controlled by traffic lights). Turn right into Dog Lane and park behind the pub.

Walk : Fairly flat but with one steep incline. Some paths getting overgrown and some fields with over knee high grass but may be cut for silage by the time of the walk. About a dozen stiles and some steps and a ladder stile to cross a railway line. 2 fields had horses and sheep but no cows encountered on the recce. A few sections of quiet road walking. Will be muddy in sections if wet.
Suggested route : M56 to J11, left at the roundabout onto the A557 and then right at the traffic lights on the A56 across the bridge. Drive through Frodsham and a half mile after passing under a railway bridge fork left on the Tarvin road (B5393) to Alvanley. Follow this road through Alvanley and Manley for about 5 miles and the Goshawk is on your right opposite Mouldsworth railway station.
Distance : Approx 18 miles or 30 minutes from M56 J9.

Walk : No stiles, canal towpath, woods (may be muddy if wet) and short road walk. Can be shortened to 'C' walk if needed.
Directions : M6 north exit junction 27 Standish. Take 3rd exit off island, follow A5209 to Standish. In Standish go straight across A49 at traffic lights ( IGNORE HAIGH HALL SIGN). Continue on road going under railway bridge and on for approx one mile. Turn right at small island signed B5239 Haigh Hall. Turn left at next small island ( signed Haigh hall). Cross csnal by humpbacked bridge controlled by traffic lights (bridge 63 on right). Carry on road and entrance to Haigh Hall is on right. Follow road to car park near stables cafe. Pay and display £3 all day so best to share cars if possible. Toilets near stable cafe.
Distance : Total journey approx 40 minutes

Turn L. then immediately R. into Lever Park Avenue between stone pillars. Follow road past school to Great House Barn on L. Toilets here if required. Continue @1/4 mile towards Rivington. Park in woods on R. before village.
OTHER ROUTES: M6 to Junc.27, R through Standish or M62E,M61 W to Junc.6, through Horwich to Crown Hotel, then as above.

Walk : Moderate but some steep inclines and steps, could be muddy.
Directions. From J11 on M62, go East towards Manchester. At J12 take M60 exit towards Leeds. At J15, take M61 towards Preston. Continue for 0.5 miles. Keep to the right at fork onto A666 towards Bolton for 1 mile, then continue on St Peters Way for 3 miles. At lights, turn right into A673 Turton Street. In ¼ mile, turn left onto Folds Road, A676 continue for 2 miles. Turn left into Bradshaw Road, still on A676 for 2 miles.Turn left on to Bury Road, continue for 1 ½ miles. White Horse is then on the left, turn left at crossroads into car park. If full, overflow parking further down the road at Barlow Institute.
Distance : 40 minutes from J11 on M62.

Meet : Dover Lock Inn, Warrington Road, Abram WN2 5XX. Order lunch before the walk.
Walk : Mostly flat but some short, steepish inclines, could be muddy.
Directions. From Warrington centre, take the A49 North towards Wigan. At the Winwick roundabout, take the 2nd exit (towards Newton-le-Willows), then immediate right to go past the front of The Swan (A573, Golbourne Road). Drive through the double bend at Hermitage Green to a T junction. To stay on the A573, turn right and IMMEDIATELY left (Golbourne Dale Road). At the roundabout, cross the East Lancs Road (A580), and carry straight on. Go through Golbourne, crossing 2 mini roundabouts and a railway bridge. At the next mini roundabout, bear left - still on the A573 (Ashton Road). The Dover Lock Inn is on the left, immediately before the bridge over the canal. This road takes you through several roundabouts and dog leg junctions to the Dover Lock Inn, which is on the left before the road over the canal at Abram.
Distance : from Warrington, 8.5 miles.
Distance : from The Swan at Winwick to The Dover Lock Inn is 6 miles.

Walk: Will be muddy if very wet. Across fields and undulating hills. No stiles.
Directions: head towards Frodsham either over Runcorn Bridge or the M56 jnc12. Take A557 towards Frodsham. At the pedestrian bridge over the road turn left onto Fluin Lane B5394. Turn left at T junc then right into Church rd. The pub is opposite the church. Turn left onto Bellemonte rd. Either park at the pub or in the church car park. Be aware that the traffic can be difficult so allow time.
Distance: 12miles 26mins from Stockton Heath.

Walk: Apart from two sets of steps, an easy walk with no stiles (yes there really are no stiles this time!).
Directions: Make your way to Stretton roundabout and take the A559 Northwich road.Follow this for approx 5 miles to Ollershaw Lane on your right. This is signed Lion Salt Works and is just before Four Lanes Garage. Drive a short distance down Ollershaw Lane until you reach a narrow bridge with traffic lights. The Salt Barge is immedately after the bridge and opposite the Lion Salt Works. Car park turning is before the pub.

Directions :- Take the M56 toward Queensferry and then take the M53 to Junction 4. At the bottom of the slip road take the second exit A5137. After 1 mile, you will reach Brimstage Hall & Craft Centre – follow the brown signs.
Time & Distance :- From Warrington it is 27 miles taking approx. 40mins.

Walk: A pleasant walk with one steep incline and a descent on uneven ground with loose shale and stones - hard on the knees ! Directions: M6 North to Exit 29 M65 (Burnley Blackburn). Keep right. Follow signs for Bamber Bridge A6 (B6258). At roundabout take 3rd exit to merge onto M65. (Burnley/Blackburn). At J2 take M61 exit to M62/Manchester/Leeds. At Clayton Brook interchange take 4th exit onto M61 slip road to M62 /Manchester/Chorley/ Leeds. Merge onto M61. At J8 exit towards A6/Chorley. At roundabout take 1st exit onto A674. Stay on A674. Turn right into Briers Brow. Pub on left.

Walk: A fairly easy walk along the Croal River Valley on paths through Moses Gate Country Park. No stiles but some ups and downs including a flight of 80 steps up! Will be muddy and include some industrial archaeology and the Meccano Bridge.
Directions: Take M62 towards Manchester. At Jct 12 take M60 N and then follow signs for A666 Bolton. Follow A666 for about 3 miles to take the slip road signposted A579/A58 Bolton Town Centre South/Bury. Turn right at the traffic lights, then right at the next traffic lights onto Radcliffe Road. Follow the road nearly a mile, past a big chimney, round the bend and pub is on the left. Or use your satnav!

Meet : The Rope and Anchor, Manchester Road, Woolston WA1 4HJ. Please arrive by 10:15 to use loos and order lunch before walk.
Walk : A moderate walk along roads and a mixture of tracks and footpaths, taking advantage of some of the Flood Defences along the river between Latchford and Woolston. No stiles. Walking Boots advised, as are walking sticks to those who usually rely on them. There is one moderate climb to get us from Woolston Weir to the Ship Canal, and 2 sets of about 15 steps to get us up to and down from Kingsway Bridge.
Suggested route: From Warrington take the A57 east towards Junction 21 of the M6. The pub is on the left hand side about half a mile beyond Woolston Legion. About 15 minutes from Warrington Town Centre.

Start: Park at Tinkersdale car park (free) CH5 3DQ to sign in and order lunch. Then walk to Glynne Arms a few minutes away to use loos if required. We will start the walk from there. Please arrive by 10.00 at the latest to allow for the walk from the car park.
Walk : A pleasant walk close to the border taking in woods and fields with some good views over Deeside, lots of mud, 10+ stiles and a few friendly horses.
Directions: Take the M56 towards N. Wales to end and continue onto Bypass Road/A494 for 4.4 miles. Take B5129 exit towards Queensferry then at the next roundabout take the 2nd exit onto Gladstone Way A550. Follow this for 1.5 miles, turn R in Hawarden village just past Post Office to stay on A550. The car park will be on the L in 200 yds. About 30 miles, 40 mins from M56 J9 depending on traffic.

Food:- The Golden Pheasant has a selection lunchtime meals and snacks at reasonable prices and has recently been refurbished to a very high standard (worth a visit if you haven’t been recently). We will order our meal before the walk.
Walk:- although easy there are a number of stiles to negotiate but there is a short cut is available to reduce the length of the walk if required. The walk includes fields, bridle paths and country lanes.
Directions:- Take the M6 south to J19 Knutsford. Turn right onto A556 Chester Road and at 2nd set of traffic lights (2 miles) turn left into Plumley Moor Rd. The Golden Pheasant is on your right after passing Plumley railway station.
Time & Distance :- From Warrington it is 13 miles taking approx. 25mins.
