Terrain: Easy. Canal tow path, fields and grounds of Chirk Castle. May be muddy in places. Please bring a torch for 2 canal tunnels
Suggested route: M56 towards North Wales. At Junction 15, use the left lane to follow signs for M53 towards Chester/Wrexham. Continue onto N. Wales Expy/A55. At junction 38 take the A483 exit to Wrexham/Chester and take the 1st exit onto the A483 towards Wrexham. Staying on the A483 after Wrexham, at the Halton Roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto A5. At the next roundabout, take the 1st exit onto B5070 into Chirk. Turn left into Bron Y Waun / Colliery Road, then turn right into the car park.
Distance : It took about 45 minutes (40 mile from M56 J10).

Directions : Route is on M56 towards N Wales until Junction 33b. Take the A494 exit towards Mold and at New Brighton Roundabout the A494 towards Ruthin. After 5 to 6 miles you will see the country park signposted on the right.

Stay on A523 for about 4 miles past Leek & T.L. onto B5053 at Bottom House + roads S.P. Onecote. Soon after passing Onecote look for signs for Grindon, T.R. onto Parson’s Lane. In Grindon T.L. just before the church for car park/picnic site. About 45 miles & 1hr 15mins from M6 J20.

Suggested route M6 North to Junction 31A. Take A6242/3 to Longridge. Through Longridge on A6243 to Hurst Green. Left at Shireburn Hotel/War Memorial. Village Hall 500 metres on right past Bayley Arms. Toilets in village on walk route. Refreshments and toilets at Bayley Arms after walk.
Distance 44 miles from J21 M6. Approx 1 hour.

|Meet : at the entrance of the Castleton car park in centre of village. Packed lunch. Toilets at the start. There are places where one can park on the roadside with no fees required but in the car park it is £5 for the day so suggest that you fill cars.
Walk : Circular walk in the Castleton area of Derbyshire. 8 miles moderate with one strenuous section. The walk follows river to Hope then the lower part of Loos hill before traversing to Mam Tor and back to Castleton. On a good day there will possibly be hang gliding folk to entertain us at lunch time.
Directions : journey takes about 1 hour 25 minutes and suggested route is M6 to Knutsford, A537 to Macclesfield then B5470 to Chapel en le Frith and follow straight on to Castleton.

|Meet : Map Ref: OS 119 – 170704. Post Code for Ashford in the water: DE45 1QP. There are toilets at the carpark and near the end. There is a cafe towards the end of the walk.
Walk : Good paths, woodland and grass. Very much Up hill and Down dale.
Directions: Leave Warrington on the A50 to Knutsford, A537 to Macclesfield and onward over the Cat and Fiddle towards Buxton. At the T junction on the A53 on the edge of the town, turn left. At traffic lights fork right on the road SP Ashbourne. Drive through the town, crossing the A515 and at a roundabout by Morrisons turn right onto the A6 towards Bakewell. Follow this road for 7.7 miles passing the village of Taddington off to the right, drive down a long hill then look for a brown picnic sign for a layby on the right. The entrance is at the far end and you have to turn back on yourself a bit. If you get as far as Ashford-in-the-water you have gone too far.
Distance : This route took 1 hour 30 minutes with no traffic problems. 48 miles.

At roundabout L onto airport eastern link A555. At roundabout R onto A5102. At roundabout L onto Chester rd. in Poynton straight across onto Park lane and follow to H. Poynton. R into Anson lane and across into Lyme rd where the visitor centre is.

In approx ½ mile ignore brown sign for Beacon Fell as you turn left into May Lane (signed Chipping).Follow road for approx 2 miles to T junction and turn right into Brock Mill Lane (signed Brock Mill, Beacon Fell 2mls). In approx ½ mile turn right into Brock Valley Picnic Site car park.

Walk : The walk is challenging with the first section, which is part of the Pennine Way, including some steep climbs over rocky outcrops then the second section is across open moorland. There is a section of about 1km which is a narrow path with a steep drop to the right. There are some spectacular views if the weather is kind to us. Suggest you bring full waterproofs - just in case.
Toilets and small shop at the campsite
Directions : M56 towards Manchester Airport and join M60 heading towards Stockport. Continue on M60 then join M67. Continue on M67 to the R/B at the end. Take the 1st exit onto A57. Continue through 2 sets of Traffic Lights and at the bottom of the hill take the A628. Continue through Tintwisle then after about 5 km look out for the campsite carpark (free)on the left.
Distance 35 miles. Allow 1hr

Walk: Good paths and forestry tracks, few stiles.
Directions: M56 West. Exit junction 33B onto A494 towards Mold. Follow signs for A494 Mold, then A494 towards Ruthin. Loggerheads is on the right hand side of the road, after Gwernymynydd and before Ruthin.
Distance: Approximately 35 miles and 1 hour travelling.

Meet at Walkers free car park behind Summit Inn Public House – OL15 9QX. Room for 6 cars. The access road is immediately down passed the pub and drive over a narrow canal bridge and up a short gravel track. We can use the pub car park as an overspill. No toilets at start and pub open on return. If we use the car park then have said we would go in for a drink on our return.
Walk : A couple of strenuous inclines. Route is through moorland, reservoir paths and a canal towpath. Some rocky paths and small boggy section. Rest of route dry on recce.
Suggested route M62/M60/M62 to Leeds. Exit at J21 Milnrow. At end of slip road turn left to Milnrow on A640. After 0.5 mile turn right to Hollingworth Lake B6225 – follow brown signs. Go passed the lake all the way to Littleborough. At junction of A58 turn left and then right onto A6033 towards Todmorden. Summit Inn 1.6 miles on right.
Distance 30 miles from J11 M62. Approx 45 minutes (subject to traffic).

Turn right on A54 – from second roundabout travel approx 1.3 miles and look for and take right fork (Middle Lane with two brown picnic area signs – it becomes Crouch Lane – at T junction turn right into Weathercock Lane (still following picnic area signs).

Walk: A steep but paved hill climb then field and moorland paths which could be wet and muddy.
Suggested route: Via Macclesfield then A523, left into Byrons lane signed Wincle Sutton and Langley , under canal bridge then left into Jarman signed Langley, then into Langley Rd to Langley, fork left into Main Rd past church, bear right Clarke Lane past Bottoms reservoir . At Pub (Pcode SK11 0NE) road forks right along Ridge Gate reservoir then left past Trentabank car park to Standing Stone car park on left at junction approx 1.25 miles past Trentabank car park.
Distance : Approx 35 miles from Warrington and around 1 hour 10min.

Walk: There are woodland paths, uneven terrain and several hundred steps, some of which are steep. There are field paths and tracks that may be muddy in sections and a short steep accent. Not too many stiles. There is a busy road to cross twice and short section of a minor road with no footpath and fast traffic. Tea rooms available after the walk if required
Directions: M56 towards Manchester. At M56 J5 take the exit to Manchester Airport. At the roundabout follow the road towards Cheadle past the airport and business park. At the T junction turn right onto the B5166. After about 1.3 mies turn right at the sign to Quarry Bank Mill. National Trust card or payment then turn right into Car Park.
Distance: About 15 miles from M56 J9 (M6 J20). Allow 30 minutes.

|Meet: North Wales Path Car Park on the approach to Dyserth, Grid Ref SJ 062792, nearest postcode LL18 6LF. Sorry, no toilets. There is a cafe (Frankie's Farm Shop) nearby in the village.
Walk: Mainly pleasant walking, although one field path has a few awkward stiles. There is one short strenuous ascent and one fairly steep but not difficult descent. The final couple of miles are very easy, on lanes, tracks and a cycleway. There should be good views towards Snowdonia and the sea from the Offa's Dyke Path towards Prestatyn.
Directions: Take the M56 westbound and continue on the A494 and A55 towards North Wales, leaving at J31 for Prestatyn. Follow the A5151 towards Prestatyn and Dyserth. As you enter Dyserth, you will see the yellow metal barrier for the car park at the bottom of the hill on your right.
Distance: about 45 miles from central Warrington. Allow 50-60 minutes.

Directions: M62 to Junction 20 then A627(M) towards Rochdale (becomes A664 into Rochdale). Right onto A58 (towards Halifax) and continue on A58 past Hopwood Hall College (ignore brown sign to Healey Dell). At traffic lights (by Dunelm) take left lane and turn left onto A671 towards Burnley (Whitworth Rd). After approximately 1 mile (just after Small World Nursery) turn left into Shawclough Rd and IMMEDIATELY fork right down Dell Lane – follow this steep, very narrow lane down to Tearoom/Visitor centre parking - Unfortunately the tearoom is closed on Weds! – toilets as you turn into Shawclough Rd on left

Meet : 10:30 at the Trentabank Car Park (SJ 960 720.) £4: 50 all day or park on the road, in the marks bays, for free. Toilets in the Car Park and there MAY be a tea truck.
Directions : From Knutsford take the A537 to Macclesfield. Keep on the A537 through Macclesfield and towards Leek passing several sets of traffic lights. About 500m after passing the Macc. pub on your left, and at the next traffic lights, turn left signposted Langley. Continue towards Langley and bear left at the Y junction. At the Langley Methodist Church bear left. This very narrow - take care. Continue along the road past the reservoirs. At the Leathers Smithy pub bear right. Continue along the road for about 1km. and the Car Park is on your right.
Approx. distance : 28 miles from Lymm. Allow 45 mins. possible holdups with Roadworks.

|Meet: Jumbles Country Park car park. Grid Ref SD736139. Use postcode BL2 4JP. Toilets in the car park; cafe adjacent. At the time of the recce, the pay & display machine was not in use.
Walk: Largely alongside three reservoirs, with a gentle ascent over moorland along part of the Witton Weavers Way. Parts can be muddy. Can be shortened if necessary.
Directions: Take the M62 westbound (or your favourite route to Bolton). At Junction 12 take M60(N) and at J15 take the M61 for Bolton. Immediately take a right-hand lane and at J2 follow A666 Bolton and continue on the dual carriageway towards the town centre. Pass under the ornate iron bridge and get in the right-hand lane. Turn right at the lights opposite the Ford garage into Turton Street, signed Ramsbottom A673 (A56). Turn left at next lights for Ramsbottom A676 into Folds Road, which becomes Tonge Moor Road. In 1½ miles, go straight on at the lights in Bradshaw Brow. In a further ½ mile at the next lights (near Crofters Bar) turn left signed Ramsbottom (A56) into Bradshaw Road. In just over a mile turn left into Jumbles Country Park. Follow the lane downhill and park at the very end in the main car park on the left.
Distance: about 25 miles from central Warrington. Allow 40-60 minutes, depending on traffic.
